SCI - Making an Impact Across Massachusetts
February 18th, 2010 - Pictured above, SCI AmeriCorps Youth Leadership Coordinator, Jennifer Ward from the SCI Milford Youth Council and Jim Sanchioni, Director of Milford Youth Center, delivered nearly 300 pairs of children’s pajamas to BJ’s Wholesale Club, General Manager, Joe Reardon. BJ’s, in collaboration with the Boston Bruins, collected children’s, new pajamas to give to nonprofit organization, Cradles to Crayons.
Despite the desperate need in Haiti, this and other SCI-led community collections have been extremely impactful. Eleven SCI Dorchester Youth Council Members and four volunteers helped to gather, sort, and distribute 600 donated jackets from the Burlington Coat Factory to families in need. SCI Lynn, in conjunction with Compare Supermarket, hosted a food drive that helped supplement food pantries in Lynn, to the tune of 26 pounds of pasta and 230 canned goods. And the SCI Woburn Youth Council collected 166 jeans during their Jeans for Teens initiative which sent blue jeans to homeless shelters throughout the US and some to Haiti.
