Honorees

We are pleased to announce that Dain and Constance Perry were the 2008 SCI Idealist Award recipients. This Award was given at the Social Capitalist Luncheon to individuals whose commitment to the values of SCI is particularly noteworthy. Dain and Constance were joined by Community Social Capitalists recognized at the luncheon, providing a number of outstanding examples of people who build social capital through their daily lives.

Dain and Constance are very worthy recipients of the first annual SCI Idealist Award. Their deep commitment to social justice has been reflected through their deep involvement with SCI and many other important causes in the Boston area and beyond. Dain was a founding board member of SCI, and has provided leadership as SCI’s board chair for the past five years. Constance has frequently used her facilitation and consulting skills to help SCI strengthen our capacity to carry out our mission. In addition, their work together to facilitate dialogue about racial reconciliation in conjunction with their family’s Sundance-nominated documentary Traces of the Trade is very much in keeping with SCI’s goal of building bridges among diverse community members. In addition, Dain’s retirement this year from Northwestern, to commit his energies to their racial reconciliation work around the country, makes for good timing of this award.
